Entrepreneurship & Religiosity

Published: November 1, 2020

Entrepreneurship has very deep linkage with the concept of Locus of Control. It has been a proven hypothesis that successful entrepreneurs have an extraordinarily strong internal locus of control. This implies that they believe that it is their self-efficacy, self-belief is primarily responsible for the results. Conversely it is assumed that those who believe that their life events are largely determined and influenced by external factors such as luck, fate or supernatural powers have less chance to succeed as entrepreneurs. On the face of it both these conclusions appear logical. But a deeper analysis reveals something different. I would like to analyse the role of faith and religious beliefs on our locus of control and consequently on our ability to be an entrepreneur.
